Abstract

Water scarcity and water pollution pose an increasing challenge in many countries, particularly in the urban areas of arid regions. For this reason, a growing number of municipalities as well as industries all over the world are employing membrane technology to reclaim their wastewater. This reduces the impact on the environment and at the same time provides high quality water which is used for irrigation and as process water. In the wastewater re-use process ultrafi ltration (UF) membranes have proven to be a reliable and competitive option for wastewater treatment for producing a very high-quality water either as a fi nal barrier or as a pre-treatment to reverse osmosis. In China several wastewater re-use plants have already been built with many more in the planning stage. Several of these plants are equipped with UF technology made by inge watertechnologies. On the basis of the wastewater treatment plant at the Beijing Capital Airport the wastewater treatment process with focus on the system design of the UF system and the fi rst operational data is described in this article.
