Abstract

Production of shale gas using the so-called fracking technology is currently the subject of a heated energy and environmental policy debate. Starting with basic information on procedures and the potential of shale gas in Germany the arguments of the proponents and the opponents will be briefly commented. From an energy policy point of view Fracking is not necessary because it cannot make a significant contribution to the German Energiewende.
