Shutdown of the Chlorination in Mladá Boleslav

Abstract

The water company Kanalizace Mladá Boleslav had the intention to provide the city Mladá Boleslav with non-chlorinated drinking water. To examine the possibility of the shutdown of the chlorination in the two water works a strategy developed by TZW was implemented. The results showed that no chlorination was required to avoid a regrowth in the distribution system. However, during the first part of the investigation program an ingress of coliform bacteria into drinking water reservoirs were found. After the reconstruction of the affected reservoirs no chlorination was required any longer. Since then, a non-chlorinated drinking water is distributed in Mladá Boleslav.
