Development of a Method for Measuring the Energy Efficiency of Pumping Wells

Abstract

Small water supply systems usually have only very simple process control systems, if any. Thus, measured values for the energy consumption are most often not available. A time- and cost-effective, yet reliable, method for the determination of the efficiency of pumping systems was developed during a master thesis at the Department of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. The method was designed to be used by small water supply companies with little time and effort. It was tested in practical application at three different wells of a small water supply company. The developed measurement method enables small companies to make informed decisions regarding adjustment of conveyor or replacement of pumps.
