With the objective to detect more energy savings on the treatment plant Ottweiler of Saarland, computational fluid dynamics of current operating state were carried out using a three-dimensional multiphase model. Focus of attention is the flow structure in the aeration tank biological reactor, which is mainly induced by the aeration and stirring devices. The simulation results obtained confirm that it comes to deposits in spite of continuous mixing of the wastewater in the aeration tank. In addition, due to the vertical aeration flow generated a reversal of the horizontal flow of a stirring device. In order to reduce the demand for electricity further, the processes of aeration and mixing should be better coordinated in future.Downloads
