Selected legal issues concerning the ordinance on general conditions for the supply of water (AVBWasserV)

Abstract

The day-to-day business of German water supply companies is governed by the Ordinance on General Conditions for the Supply of Water (Verordnung über Allgemeine Bedingungen für die Versorgung mit Wasser – AVBWasserV). The Ordinance covers all relevant issues and topics that play a role in a water supply company’s business relations with its customers and/or the parties to be connected. However, when it comes to their practical implementation, it often turns out that it is the small details which are the most problematic. Therefore, the following contribution focuses on a number of selected legal issues of the Ordinance that water supply companies frequently encounter in their daily business and which give rise to debates and legal disputes with their customers.
