The entry into force of Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 (Biocidal Products Regulation) lead to various changes for the making available on the market and use of biocidal products within the EU. Among others, the definition of a biocidal product and the regulatory framework have been extended compared to Directive 98/8/EG. This has consequences, especially for biocidal products produced on site (in situ) for the disinfection of drinking water. The article describes the development of the biocides regulations, gives a brief insight into the key procedures under the Biocidal Products Regulation and explains the consequences for drinking water disinfection.Downloads
