Abstract

We present a new method how to determine the residual amount of air in a water-filled pipe and how this amount impacts the results of a standard pressure drop test to ensure no leaks. Our mathematical model demonstrates that reliable results can be obtained even in cases where the residual air amount exceeds the formerly acceptable limit. Therefore, our new approach makes repeated tests such as refilling of pipes obsolete thus providing a more reliable, efficient, and cost effective pipe inspection procedure.
