Interface Motivation: Game-based media in the water sector

The field of communication media continuously is subject to advancements. Video games are a special kind of the so-called new media. Besides their apparent goal of entertainment they can be exploited to serve further purposes (e. g. communication and learning). In these cases they are referred to as serious games. Generally, such a serious game deals with knowledge of a technical domain. Thus there are several serious games which focus on issues of the water sector. A common characteristic of all serious games is their goal to foster motivation: they are used at the intersection between humans and processes. This article provides a current overview of serious games and game-based software in the field of water management.Downloads
