Abstract

The feeding of private installations for fire-fighting is often carried out from the drinking water supply network. The fire-fighting water demand usually significantly exceeds the drinking water demand. The technical feasibility is limited by the generally accepted codes of practice. This article introduces a method to examine the technical feasibility by means of calculations. The procedure comprises the examination of network capacity and, in the case of supply via the house connection pipe, the verification of the pipe diameter. The codes to be considered are summarised and possible interpretations are given.
