Abstract

Industry 4.0 is a building block of the German government‘s high tech strategy. The dynamic adaptation of production systems for Industry 4.0 requires the realignment of current centralised automation architectures based on the established automation pyramid. These isolate components of the production process against other parts of the value chain, preventing the application of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. Taking a beverage bottling machine as an example, the DnSPro project shows how an open platform approach can help to establish smart autonomous subsystems.
