Flexible Test Automation for Fail-Safe Controllers - An Easier Way to Test Plans and Test Reports

Abstract

Testing of safety-related controllers is complex. It should therefore be executed automatically on a test bench. For this, new concepts are needed. A system is introduced to test various binary inputs and outputs of a PLC including the distribution cabinet. The individual test software is automatically generated based on functional specifications stored in a database. Therefore, the test system can be used independently of the plant to be controlled. The presented test system logs test results automatically and allows electronic management of test documentation. By means of this automatic qualification system (AQUA), a lot of time and costs can be saved compared to recent qualification procedures being performed mostly manually.
