Abstract

Wireless sensors are applied for the recording of data in distributed systems like plants, machines, or cars without huge installation effort. The paper presents state-of-the-art and first applications of energy-autonomous power supplies for wireless sensors. The typical system architecture of self-powered energy supplies is discussed and basic functions are explained. Systems are described that use thermal gradients and vibrations for powering wireless sensors. Measurement results of these prototypes show the functionality and performance.
