Abstract

The correct installation of communication cabling is essential for the efficient operation of communication networks in industrial plants. Thus, issues due to environmental conditions such as electromagnetic interference can be reduced, and the occurence of malfunctions within the communication network and resulting downtimes in production can be minimized. In order to promote proper cabling installations in industrial plants, the standard EN 61918 has been approved by CENELEC at the beginning of 2008. Its application is demonstrated in the paper. Besides the basic standard EN 61918, technology-specific requirements of the respective user groups and industrial consortia are published within additional standards of EN 61784-5.
