Abstract

Because of their flexibility and broad range of possible products in a single plant, batch and semi-batch processes are used extensively in the chemical industry. Optimization of batch and semi-batch processes is based on the four pillars product and process optimization, recipe generation, process control and process operation. Examples from optimization projects give an overview on the current possibilities. The challenges for a holistic optimization of batch and semi-batch processes will also be discussed.
