Abstract

Many industrial plants are regularly inspected by personnel with the senses and equipment to detect irregularities such as gas leaks. Mobile robots equipped with remote gas detectors offer an opportunity to free workers from this monotonous, repetitive task. A task- and user-centred approach was chosen because this assures efficient and effective human-robot interaction and improves the acceptance of the human-machine system.
