Abstract

The rheological design of profile extrusion dies is an iterative process with extensive manual rework. Flow simulations have gained some acceptance, but there are only limited options with respect to software to optimize the flow channel geometry during the design phase. By means of the combination of the introduced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software XNS and an optimization algorithm a reasonable channel geometry can be computed for simple die geometries. It has the potential of being applied to more complex flow channels.
