Abstract

Interoperability in heterogeneous distributed systems using consistent engineering methods has long been a topic of research. Interfaces between products and systems from different vendors often lead to problems with the fault analysis and specification of performances. Here, distributed systems are considered which contains real-time and non-real time components. Temporal modelling is proposed for the overall system consisting of the process, communications, and the instrumentation used, as well as an evaluation of the temporal uncertainties of the sub-systems. An online-observer should be used to supervise the system and to suggest recommendations if needed.
