Abstract

Programming and reconfiguration of control systems are combined with many manual operations and therefore timeconsuming and error prone. Specific semantic information models and middleware paradigms remedy and are the basis for automated procedures at field device integration or the dynamic adaption of production processes at runtime. This treatise explains different kinds of knowledge representation, discusses existing knowledge sources for the setup of specific information models and presents potential benefits.
