Abstract

In process engineering, the attachment of positioners to pneumatic actuators is of great importance. Progress in this field is evident in the revision of VDI/VDE 3847 as well as in proprietary developments based on new approaches. Attachment without piping between positioner and actuator and the use of non-contact sensors mark the development towards improved reliability. In this article, we describe the state of the art and assess various solutions based on their life cycle costs.
