Abstract

This article describes a model-based process for the development of IEC61508 compliant embedded software in the industrial measurement domain. The process implements the activities of a V-Model tailoring based on UML models. Existing drawbacks of UML concerning the modelling of safety aspects are overcome by a UML extension that supports the process-side as well as the product side of the development. Integrating the software documentation into the UML models reduces the effort for software certification and development.
