Abstract

We present an approach to automatically determine the value sets of variables in PLC programs. The value set includes all values that a variable can take during all possible program executions. This information makes it possible to detect or exclude errors in PLC code without having to specify the correct behaviour formally. The verification techniques work directly on the program code so they do not require the program to have been translated into a formal model. The approach is implemented in the Arcade.PLC tool. An industrial case study is included.
