Abstract

The encapsulation of heterogeneous automation components using web-based techniques like web sockets in accordance with RFC 6455 promises significantly faster response times compared to SOAP or REST and bidirectional event-based server-client communication. An additional XML-based component self-description has a potential for automated generating of application specific languages. The use of the concept is demonstrated using an example for the automation of biotechnological processes.
