Abstract

Automation systems can make a considerable contribution for energy-efficient industrial operations, both by improving processes and reducing consumption during breaks in production. We present a system model and optimization approach for analytically identifying energy-optimising strategies for non-productive phases. The proposed intelligent start/stop mechanism is shown to reduce the overall energy demand in two-shift operation by 15 per cent.
