Configuration Management in the Plant Life Cycle

In view of plant life cycles of 15 to 20 years, the integration of instruments in a control system can be a complex and costly affair. A solution is described for the availability of the device driver for the entire life cycle. Protocol specific identification attributes of the field device are put in relation with vendor internal product data in order to efficiently support the configuration management processes for engineering, commissioning and maintenance.
