Abstract

A new architecture is described for automation systems based on web technologies – a Web-Oriented Automation System (WOAS). The approach involves a web-oriented architecture (WOA) familiar from information technology. The WOAS architecture allows the principles and methods from the standardized world of Internet technologies to be transferred into the world of industrial automation in a systematic and structured manner. A WOAS core is combined with configurable web-oriented automation services that implement the required automation functions.
