Abstract

The functional test of control code is an integral part of the factory acceptance test (FAT). At present this is still typically executed manually, which is time-consuming and unsystematic. Changes are often documented manually during the test and then later corrected. But there is no guarantee that correcting such an error does not introduce additional problems in other parts of the system. This article presents the concept of Smart FAT which combines process simulation and hardware emulation with a test engine. This combination allows automated control system tests in a virtual environment.
