Abstract

Security is becoming increasingly important in process automation. Every new solution must be able to meet the requirements for reliability and accessibility, sustainability, and security of investments. At the same time, IT technologies from the office sector are making increasing advances into automation technology and offer powerful, cost-effective solutions. Trends such as Industry 4.0 will push forward the use of Internet technologies in automation. But as well as the advantages offered by these developments there are also risks for IT security. This article describes how manufacturers, integrators and users can adopt new strategies to tackle these problems.
