Abstract

Continuous processes in the chemicals industry are typically controlled by an operator, who adjusts set values for various single-loop control systems. However, constant operation at an optimum point cannot be achieved in this way. Methods of advanced process control (APC) can offer a solution. A successful APC project is described and the results are presented. The experience shows that APC projects can in some cases pay off within one year.
