Abstract

This paper describes how the practical requirements of ISO 13849-1 on safety related plc software can be met. The paper is based on the results of a project funded by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) and initiated by its Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (IFA). One main result is a cause-effect table for safety plc software. Industrial examples are available on-line. The results offer a basis for the IFA report on state-of-the-art safety plc software in engineering applications. Some basic concepts of this paper were included in the draft version of IEC ISO 17305.
