Abstract

This work presents a pulsatile control of a commercial rotary blood pump with a prototype control box. It is part of the project ECLA-Vent, which focuses on the optimization and safety of ARDS treatment. The task of the rotary blood pump is to generate a blood flow for extracorporeal lung assistance. The power electronics for the pump drive were adapted and a feedback control developed and evaluated to satisfy the high dynamic demands of the pulsatile operating mode. Regarding the development of the feedback controller, the system model was adapted and parametrized. The discretized feedback control was implemented for the operating software of the microcontroller architecture with real time capabilities. The revised pump control was characterized in-vivo and in-vitro.
