Abstract

Demands on energy-efficiency in manufacturing are increasing due among other things to the depletion of natural resources. Using energy data as reference values could be an appropriate application scenario for the efficient control of high-energy processes. This paper examines the relevance of energy monitoring as part of the interlinking of industrial plants. Additionally, the use of this data for intelligent automation (referred to in the Toyota Production System as Jid ka and autonomation) is introduced and core capabilities are characterized.
