Abstract

Predevelopment and calibration of heating device functions often involves time consuming experimentation in the laboratory using mechanical prototypes. Demands concerning efficiency, comfort and environmental impact, as well as costs and time to market are continuously becoming more challenging. These requirements, combined with growing technological complexity and more product variants, call for enhancements in development, especially concerning the dynamic behaviour of the heating
appliances. The early and efficient development of optimized and robust functions is critical. The Vaillant Group attaches considerable importance to integrated model-based design activities, extending from system analysis through function and software development to automatic offline calibration of function parameters. The use of rapid control prototyping technologies ensures comprehensive feedback. Applications of integrated model-based design activities along the development process are presented. These examples reflect several years of experience using model-based design activities successfully in the development
of gas-fired boilers.
