Abstract

A novel method is presented for simulating technical processes on the basis of measured reaction of a system excited by a known input signal. The method is fully transparent and involves only linear differential equations, Laplace transformations, and the least squares method. There is no need for a nonlinear optimizer or an algorithm requiring iterations, and the solutions can be expressed by two linear matrix equations. The method can be used for a wide range of practical applications because the initial conditions can also be estimated it is applicable for stable or unstable systems, for open or closed loop systems and for dynamic processes in progress.
