Abstract

Security by Design for Industry 4.0

IT security in the field of automation (industrial security) is becoming increasingly important due to the increasing networking and information exchange inside and outside (Internet and cloud) of the systems. Increasing communication creates larger attack surfaces in industrial automation and control systems (IACS). This leads to new IT security requirements in the context of Industry 4.0 (I4.0), which should already be addressed in the design. A current challenge is the interlocking design of I4.0 systems with cybersecurity risk assessments in order to be able to repeat them cyclically and consistently over the life cycle of an I4.0 system. This article presents a model-based approach to meet this challenge.
