Abstract

The competency of employees in pharmaceutical manufacturing is essential for safety, quality and reliability. Conventional training methods are elaborate, can hardly be automated and do not always yield the desired results. The “DeepTraining” approach provides a solution where employees immerse themselves in an authentic production environment via virtual reality glasses to acquire capabilities crucial for avoiding the most important mistakes. They get instant and precise feedback and are being trained – regardless of their individual profile of strengths and weaknesses – in an automated and quality assured fashion (training transfer effect) without production being disrupted by training at the plant. This article introduces the DeepTraining concept and illustrates how it was applied successfully to a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in the Supply Center Leverkusen of Bayer AG.
