Abstract

Fuel cell systems are usually manufactured in a manual process. In order for fuel cells to be manufactured economically, automation solutions are required that make the fuel cells suitable for mass production. A wide range of requirements must be taken into account. Experts were interviewed in the course of a research project in which these requirements were identified and discussed. The results are presented in this article. The interviews focused on the fuel cell stack, which is the core of the fuel cell
system and represents a time- and quality-critical bottleneck in the current production of fuel cells.
