Abstract

This publication describes how to evaluate an AI with  respect to its certifiability as qualified software for use in  safety-critical development processes. Currently, there is no standardized process to qualify AI-based software in a safety-critical context. Modelwise paitron’s concept report for IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 is used as an example. The analyses and documents required by Tüv SÜD are  explained, as well as what needs to be considered during tool development in order to successfully deploy and use a safety-critical tool. The results of this work further address  the current discussion on the qualification of AI and to what extent AI can be used in functional safety.
