Module Type Package in Manufacturing Automation

Part 2: Information Modelling

Abstract

The Module Type Package (MTP) provides information about process automation modules in a standardised way and thus facilitates their integration into a modular plant. The MTP standard also promises great potential for manufacturing automation. The first part of the article, which was published in atp magazine 9/2023, examined what the MTP lacks in order to transfer the MTP concepts to manufacturing automation. The second part of the article presents a concept for implementation: the extension of the traditional MTP with manufacturing-technical specific information. As a result, the orchestrating system
should be enabled to automatically recognise, interpret and apply the service behaviour of a module, among other things. Through a plug-in architecture, the MTP file is extended domain-specifically without changing the MTP standard itself.
