Abstract

This paper presents a support system for integrated communication planning for a process plant. The goal is to meet the process communication requirements of the engineer on the basis of the basic engineering data from the various departments relating to control engineering, process design, safety, and construction. The system helps with the selection of the optimum communication technology, and automatically calculates the structure and material take off (MTO) of required communication equipment. For the first time, the fieldbus planning process according NA 114 is supported by an integrated and technology-independent tool chain.
