Abstract

The regulatory control layer of process plants should be tuned to make it possible to react to varying loads, but also so that advanced control and optimisation can be implemented successfully. This can only be achieved by continuous monitoring and optimisation. The larger the plant, the more difficult manual optimisation becomes. It therefore seems prudent to employ software based analysis tools for better selection and resource management. We call this process “Controller Performance Management”. We describe the requirements of controller performance management from a practical viewpoint. We discuss monitoring as well as optimisation but also software and organisational requirements for the successful implementation of the complete controller performance management workflow.
