Abstract

Modern process plants are becoming more and more complex, with high demands on system design, engineering and operation. The use of simulation technology can help to address engineering and operational issues earlier and with lower risks. This article presents the results of a global online survey investigating the current and future role of simulation over the life-cycle of a process plant. Based on more than 200 responses, fields of action and requirements are derived to enable the future continuous use of simulation. In addition, a first roadmap was derived to show a possible path into the future of a fully integrated use of simulation within the life-cycle of a process plant. An initial implementation will be presented in Part 2.
