Abstract

Modern manufacturing companies have to face the challenges of the market and the global economy every day. A key to success is smart production. A task that has to be fulfilled in order to realize smart production is the integration of existing plants into an Industry 4.0 context. This article describes the key steps involved and data-based approaches to integrating existing plants into a smart production environment. This includes data acquisition, the use of machine learning methods, and the modelling of expert knowledge using a random decision forest.
