Abstract

The process industry faces a paradoxical situation: on the one hand, modern plants are equipped with a wealth of sensors,
measuring instruments, and automation systems that continuously generate data. On the other hand, a significant portion of the potential for optimisation remains untapped because critical process knowledge is locked away in isolated systems as a result of incremental digitalisation. The challenge today lies not in replacing these established systems, but in intelligently linking them. This is precisely where the vision of the “agentization of automation” comes in: not as a revolution, but as a logical evolution of what we already have.
