Abstract

In fuel cell electric trucks, energy and thermal management are strongly coupled through fuel cell power, their waste heat, and thermal auxiliary loads. Part I of this two-part contribution introduces the Mutually-Informed Predictive Thermal-Energy Management Strategy (MIPTEMS). The approach retains separate predictive strategies for energy and thermal management and coordinates them via the bidirectional exchange of predicted trajectories. Control-oriented models capture the relevant system dynamics, while dedicated optimization problems formulate both strategies and their mutual coupling.
