Modeling of a telecontrol outstation with AutomationML

Abstract

Today, so-called telecontrol technology is used for communication between a central control station and remote plant components (outstations). A widely used telecontrol protocol is Dnp3. Today, telecontrol outstations are often implemented on the basis of PLCs. For telecontrol systems, the same requirements for engineering exist as for central automation technology systems: The engineering must be as efficient as possible, i.e. without unnecessary effort. In automation technology, AutomationML as a data exchange format forsters interoperability of engineering tools and thus reduces the engineering effort. This paper describes how a Dnp3 outstation can be modeled in AutomationML. In this context, modeling rules and specifications are first presented in a generally valid manner so that they can be adapted easily to other protocols of telecontrol systems.
