Abstract

Due to the variation of the position of the tissue of fast dividing tumour cells during radiotherapy as a consequence of physiological processes, e.g. respiration, optimum dose distribution cannot be guaranteed. Currently it is at best possible to adjust the area of focus to the statistical position distribution of the target tumour cells. However, this means that healthy body tissue around the tumour will also be exposed to high radiation doses. In a pre-examination project, the principles for the technology of a robot driven examination table have been developed. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the radiation exposure of healthy tissue in the case of physiological movements.
