Automation of automation in industrial uses

Abstract

For more than a decade, researchers have been working on the Automation of Automation (AoA). The prospect of automatically created automation systems led to initiatives for the development of methods and algorithms for AoA. Methods for automatic generation of engineering artifacts have been developed that are viable and introduce high value for automation technology. However, the relevant design documents are often not delivered in a form suited for computer interpretation. A new method is introduced that regenerates process design information from a given automation system. The resultant model can for example be used to automatically generate plant simulation models. The concept is verified for an oil production plant and the automatic generation of simulation models is transferred to a practical application.
