Abstract

Detailed process and machine knowledge is needed in order to set up and adjust conventional manufacturing systems for production. The concept of self-optimizing production systems is suggested in order to reach a higher level of automation. This requires the systematic development of additional control loops. A way is shown to decouple machine-oriented control loops from higher control loops or higher optimisations with the aid of model-based predictive control. This increases the portability of the self-optimization concept to other machine types.
