Eine Studie für die praktische Anwendung des Funkstandards in einer Prozessanlage

Abstract

Wireless enabled actuators, sensors and gateways have driven the use of this technology in industrial plants for over a decade now. Industry 4.0, digitalization, big data and increasing quality and security regulations have all made it necessary to collect and process more and more field data. Thus, the desire to use efficient wireless communication in setting up new plants or in the retrofitting of existing installations is becoming ever more evident. In contrast to other automation technology domains, such as building, energy or traffic automation, there is little field experience in the application of so-called wireless technology in process automation. Therefore it is questionable for which applications the new wireless sets are suitable or indeed for how long they could be used. This article analyzes the opportunities of this technology, using practical examples. The aim is to provide use cases to encourage a broader usage in the future.
